L1danceFest 2020 ONLINE

Movement-based International Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts

19th annual edition organized by L1 Association in Budapest

September 1 – 5 2020

issuu brochure

Due to its focus on gathering independent artists the L1 Association could acutely detect the difficulties and challenges caused by the measurements during the recent pandemic. Even though online meetings and presence can not substitute live art on a long distance the L1 Association decided to help to keep artistic activities alive and to reach out to perhaps wider audiences by usage of established social media and video portals. With this in mind the program of the 19th L1danceFest is moving into the online space.

The international L1danceFest is organized for the 19th time in Budapest between September 1 – 5 2020, with its focus on contemporary performing arts (dance, dance theatre and other forms of performing arts).

L1 Association has been securing and proving for 19 years now that the presence of national and international contemporary and independent artists is vital to and constructive for the local dance scene.

When designing the programme of L1danceFest it is of utmost importance to include so-called OFF programmes (or accompanying events) thus emphasizing the festival‘s community building potential, its role in professional understanding, and in short its one-to-one, flesh and blood experience. Therefore, from the very beginning, various workshops, exhibitions, open discussions and other art forms have been characterizing the L1danceFest.

Besides many international artists it is as important as it was in the beginning to include works of local artists in the programme, with special focus on those of the members and resident artists of L1 Association. Due to current difficulties with international travel this year’s edition puts its focus mainly on Hungarian artists.

Now the festival consists of several main events like:

Tune-in / Warm-up;

Showcase programme with short pieces;

Exhibition;

Interrogating the Body – sharings of practice as research – mini conference;

and ignOtion – game based artist talks.

All are open for both the non-professional and professional audience.

L1danceFest 2020 in numbers:

14 performances – 1 exhibition and opening action – 10 volunteers
